The Oxford University Malaysia Club (OUMC) gives Malaysians a chance to get together for any occasion, be it to celebrate a festival in our own inimitable style, or to indulge in some culinary delights from home.

Studying abroad can be an enormously rewarding experience and a wonderful opportunity to discover a different culture and way of life. However, it can also be challenging in unexpected ways, as you immerse yourself in unfamiliar surroundings and adapt to new ways of thinking and doing things. This is where we can help: we provide guidance and support for Malaysian students in Oxford.

That said, our activities are not limited to Malaysians – we also aim to support the appreciation of Malaysian heritage among our fellow Oxonians. To that end, we have members from Singapore, Brunei, and other countries, who share our common cultural interests and practices.

To encourage potential Oxonians to apply, the OUMC publishes an alternate university prospectus and organises seminars in Malaysia. If you are thinking of applying to Oxford, we can provide support and advice.

As a non-profit organisation, we rely on sponsorships from companies seeking to give something back to society. Any additional financial support is always welcome!

A little bit more about us…

The University of Oxford is the heart of a modest, vibrant town where history itself goes about its everyday business like any other student. Owing to its titanic foundation of tradition and prestige, the very air of Oxford seems to tingle with a quaint beauty. Striding down the cobblestoned pavements between towering yellow stone and red brick, one quickly becomes assimilated into the little Oxford world where the surreal becomes the norm, where brilliance becomes commonplace and where the impossible becomes a simple part of life.

Within this quirky bubble lives the Oxford University Malaysia Club, OUMC for short, which serves as a mooring for the sanity of all Oxford Malaysians. OUMC welcomes all members, pampers away their troubles, and sends them away excellently fed and ready for another battle. Food, indeed, is at the core of every Malaysian’s conscious mind; nothing so sustains in a foreign land as an impromptu curry/seafood cookout or homecooked nasi lemak, Deeparaya style. After the calories have been burned away in some spontaneous match of football, badminton, tennis or netball (or a snowball fight if you’re lucky!) members may then choose to work the mind in talks and discussions with some of our country’s biggest names – which is, of course, not to say there won’t be food present.

There is much to see, much to learn – and much that may be forgotten – in one of the pinnacles of global education. Oxford University presents a unique experience to each of its scholars, none less meaningful and memorable than any other; OUMC gives colour and warmth to those meanings and memories, so that roots may not wither as shoots reach for the skies.
