Our Club Patron

The Oxford University Malaysia Club is proud to be under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Raja Zarith Sofiah binti Almarhum Sultan Idris Shah

Her Royal Highness Raja Zarith Sofiah is the queen consort to the Sultan of Johor, His Royal Highness Sultan Ibrahim ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, and daughter of the late Sultan Idris Iskandar Shah II of Perak. She is an alumnus of Somerville College, Oxford where she read Oriential Studies.

Raja Zarith Sofiah is the chancellor of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and is a Royal Fellow of the School of Language Studies and Linguistics at University Kebangsaan Malaysia. She is a patron of the Johor Spastic Children’s Association, the Rotary Club of Tebrau Heart Fund and the Malaysian English Language Teaching Association. She is also the Chairman of the National Community Service Committee for the Malaysian Red Crescent.

Raja Zarith Sofiah is a strong advocate for improving the use of English in Malaysia. In addition to English and Malay, she also speaks Mandarin, Italian and French. She has authored numerous children’s books and writes a column for local newspaper The Star, often promoting multiculturalism and understanding between religious and ethnic communities in Malaysia.
